Launched Women in Surgery (WIS): A Wellness-First Community Built Hand in Hand with Dr. Sharona Ross

GA, United States July 21, 2026 – We are proud to announce the launch of WIS (Women in Surgery)- a wellness-focused community platform in a close partnership with Dr. Sharona Ross, one of the renowned and decorated surgeons in the US, and a pioneer of minimally invasive and robotic surgery. The vision behind the platform was to give women in medicine a space where they can connect, support, and mentor one another, even after the conference lights are shut off.

Foundation of the Project

Dr. Ross’s decades of advocacy have been the foundation of the project. She founded the WIS initiative in 2009 and led both the Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons and the Society of Robotic Surgery as president. She has witnessed mentorships and friendships formed between women surgeons, often during annual summits. However, once the event wrapped up, everyone returned home without any means to connect further. While a professional network always existed, the focus on recognizing what women surgeons need was still missing. Dr. Ross wanted a platform with visible career openings, genuine mentorships, live events, and an environment where women surgeons felt truly supported and safe.

“Women in surgery have always built strong bonds at our symposiums – what we never had was a permanent home to keep that support going,” said Dr. Sharona Ross. “WIS App finally gives us that home: a place where women can lift one another, pass on what we have learned, and care for our own wellbeing, so the next generation never feels forced to choose between a career and a full life.”

What We Built?

Envisioning a platform that connects medical professionals, we collaboratively designed WIS as a purpose-built product. Within the new platform, members can chat, trade insights, and post updates while keeping all the conversations alive. The platform connects experienced surgeons with fellows and early-career professionals. Users can explore events and host public, private, and even live gatherings. A separate feed has been designed that brings job and career opportunities to skilled medical talent.
